HUD-VASH Program

This is a joint program between HUD (Housing And Urban Development) and VASH (Veterans Affairs Supportive Housing).  It combings HUD rental housing vouchers with VA supportive services to help homeless Vets & their families find permanent housing.  Case managers may also connect Vets with services for health care, mental health care, substance abuse & their ability to maintain housing.

St. Clair County

St. Clair County Veterans Assistance Commission (SCCVAC)
SCCVAC helps Veterans with temporary financial assistance for food & hygiene vouchers and rent & utilities.  They cannot help with past due amounts and there's a $300 limit on utility assistance in one month.  They also cannot assist with fees, deposits, or past or overdue rent.  SCCVAC also assists Vets in filing claims for compensation, pensions & other issues.

The Joseph Center

The Eagle’s Nest of St. Clair County helps homeless military Veterans with support and transitional housing for men at the Joseph Center in East St. Louis.  *Vets must come directly from The Hope Recovery Center or a substance abuse program.  Services focus on life skills training, medical, dental & mental health services; career counseling & job training; assistance receiving benefits such as SSI, SSDI, VA, GA & food stamps; substance abuse after-care and individual & group counseling.

Madison County Veterans' Assistance Commission Outreach
They host outreach for Veterans at various locations where Vets can meet with a Service Officer in regards to all benefit-related filings, including VA-service-connected compensations and pension claims, Aid & Attendance pension benefits, and health care benefits.  Call to make an appointment with a Service Officer at one of the locations in Alton, Cottage Hills, Granite City, Highland or Wood River.

The Veterans’ Assistance Commission of Madison County Inc.
For emergencies such as rent payments to avoid eviction, utility payments to avoid disconnections, food & basic necessities, burial expenses and limited dental assistance.  Vets must have proof of an Honorable Discharge (DD-214) and proof of Madison County residence and meet the guidelines.
