My first personal involvement with our local homeless population was in early 2014. I held a benefit at work for my friend and mentor that I first met in January of 2012 back in culinary school (L'Ecole Culinaire, Class of 2013!!), Jacki Dirksmeyer. Her organization Feed My Peeps moves food to places in need. In early 2015 I realized that there was a huge untapped resource in my immediate community as well as the surrounding cities so I decided to start recruiting some local volunteers and introducing them to our displaced friends on the streets as well as other groups and individuals that served.
Great things started happening and Making A Difference was born shortly after, not only out of need from our homeless friends but also because the local communities wanted to continue to be involved and be a part of something that made a difference, hence the name. On March 22nd, 2017, we were granted a 501(c)3 non-profit status from the IRS. Shortly after, we were blessed with a shuttle bus to accommodate our continuous growth then on February 12, 2018, another shuttle bus was donated to us which enabled us to help many more!
All donations are tax deductible. We of course do not have a paid staff (this isn't Goodwill lol), 100% of every donation finds its way to our homeless friends. It is because of the huge amount of support from our local communities that we're able to serve in some way 7 days a week, 365 days out of the year. This is our story and it's only the beginning.
Can you help? Message or call us and let's make a difference together! Why?
Because they matter.
